Ahhhh...the blissful word...marriage. It's Sunday, guests have left, your gift's opened...it's time to settle into the rest of your life! The BEST years are ahead of you! The thing I have learned about living in a blissful marriage is not being so madly in love that the entire world slips away (don't get me wrong, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that ♥). It is instead.....DRUM ROLL PLEASE....the inevitable C's, compromise and communication! I know what you are thinking--"Compromise and communication...wow, such harsh and obvious words for love!" Oh, but let me explain..let's first start with compromise.
So compromise, not what a lot of people like to hear. Have you ever heard the saying "the first year is always the hardest" or "it gets better with time"? Well my friends...I am here to put a stop to the RUMORS! THE LIES! and give you some hope, shed some lights on this blissful thing called marriage. You know...because I have years...YEARS! of advice to give. *insert sarcastic tone here* What I have is better, I have being married just over a year and I am going to tell you what I have learned in my first year of marriage.
Compromise...thinking of your spouse before yourself. Waking up bright and early *yawn* just to make them breakfast in bed. Doing what is best for them even if it means giving something up for yourself. Life isn't about selfish thinking because for a lot of us nothing is as fun, not a career or an abundance of money, unless you have someone to share it with.
Now on to the next...communication....woahhhh, wait, what?! You're telling me we actually have to speak? SAY IT AIN'T SO! It may be even more important than compromise. In my uno year of sweet, blissful marriage I have learned that communication along with good decision making skills plays a major part in the making of an awesome, love filled and successful marriage. So talk, spend time with each other...travel the world (or just picnic in the backyard)...just as long as you're doing it together!
So go be married!
XOXO♥
*disclaimer..next post won't be nearly as gushy
